North Stockton Railroad Grade Separations & Bridge Replacement ![]() Project Purpose The purpose of the project is to provide the improvements to accommodate the traffic growth and development in the north Stockton area. These improvements are necessary because Public Utilities Commission regulations typically do not allow the widening of existing at-grade railroad crossings if a grade-separated crossing is feasible. The improvements proposed with this project will create safer crossings while addressing current and future traffic demands. Project Status The project received environmental clearance in July 2007, and design of the project is nearing completion. The City of Stockton is working to acquire the necessary right-of-way and environmental permits for the project. The project is anticipated to go to bid in early 2010 with construction to begin in summer 2010. Project Funding The total project is estimated to be $100 million. The project is funded by Public Facilities Fees—38 percent; Measure K—30 percent (the voter-approved, half-cent sales tax), California Proposition 1B bonds—27 percent, and the Union Pacific Railroad—5 percent. In August 2008, the City was successful in receiving Proposition 1B bond funding (Highway Safety, Traffic Reduction, Air Quality, and Port Security Bond Act of 2006) which completed funding needed for construction.
